Church News for November

Carbrooke Church was busy during the Summer; The Concert in conjunction with Ovington to launch our Heritage Lottery Grant Application featured the beautiful voice of Emma Nualle on 25th August. The church was packed, it was lovely to have so many members of the village attending, and appreciating the atmosphere within the building. The Police horses were quite a draw and were very well behaved! ‘Spine tingling’ is the word I have heard to describe it, which I suppose was the action of the Holy Spirit. Thank you to everyone who supported us, I believe following expenses, around £800 was raised. Sadly inspite of a wonderful concert , we did not win our Heritage Lottery bid, it appears that there were many others trying to bid for the same small pot of money. We now have to seriously consider other ways of raising the many £100.000’s needed to restore our building and keep it safe. The last few months have also seen the changing scenes of life, we have had 3 lovely Baptisms filling the church with happy families, Seth Chapman on 16th July, Maisie Osborne on 3rd September and Violet Hinsley on 1st October. Sadly we have also hosted 2 funerals and we send our prayers and condolences to the families of Philip Fincham Buried 20TH October and Donald Webster whose funeral was held on 24th October (in lieu of Ovington Church which is closed for restoration).

Carbrooke Christmas Bazaar Saturday 10am-3pm 9th December in the Village Hall. Please look out for further details of what we have planned.

Carbrooke ‘King David’ painting. During the Heritage Festival in July, we had a visitor who generously offered to have the painting restored at his own cost. During the summer, the painting has been taken away and professionally restored. It is now complete and ready to be returned to Carbrooke. We will be holding a service to celebrate the restoration of the King David painting on Oct 29th at 3pm in the church. David Turner who paid for the restoration, and the restorer will attend and we hope many Carbrooke residents will show appreciation too. The Service will be followed by refreshments.

The school filled the church as they held their Harvest Service on 7th October, with the Parish service being held on 9th October as a Lay Led service.

Now the time of year is approaching when we start to think of Christmas, and getting involved in all the exciting seasonal festivities. Please look out for, and support the many Christmas activities we have planned in Carbrooke and the local area.
