A big thanks to all the village stalwarts who helped to make this years fete a great success – in spite of several hiccups and disappointments along the way!
This year those of us on the organising committee worked hard to ensure that there was a mix of activities, attractions and entertainment and it was good to use the amphitheatre on the Green for a range for performances. The afternoon opened with routines from Star Dance of Watton and continued with a great medieval combat display from Ovington based Arms of Chivalry (in spite of the only shower of the afternoon) and two musical performances from Carbrooke – raised Kevin Chilvers.
Visitors we also given the chance to meet Graham Cole, star of The Bill who came with the Norwich Time Travellers Society long with their Dalek, Cyber man and other sci-fi favourites! As with previous fetes there was plenty to eat and drink with the church and Pre-School providing delicious cakes and refreshments. For those in need of a stronger tipple the village hall set up a bar on the green serving beer and Pimms.
Sadly we were let down by two local companies who were going to supply an climbing wall, bungee trampolines, fair ground rides and candy floss. We had no idea that they were not coming until the failed to turn up on the day. Very disappointing indeed.
The fete is organised by a very small committee of people from Carbrooke but we would love to have more ideas, help and involvement from others living in our community. We plan to get started on the planning for the 2014 fete much earlier so watch this space for details of how you can join in. In the meantime take a look at the video made by local film maker Tom Muller.
