Heritage talk – An Englishman’s home is his castle!

17th November 7pm Carbrooke Village Hall
Carbrooke Heritage Group welcomes Robert Chalmers to present
‘AN ENGLISHMAN’S HOME IS HIS CASTLE’ – The History Of Home Ownership – What, How, Why?
And Understanding Legal Jargon In Old Documents

Considering History of home & land ownership from earliest times, how or why we own or rent our homes. Many of us expect to own our own homes, but this is a fairly recent state of affairs, in past times, most people would have rented, with no hope or thought of owning them. In Carbrooke many homes were ‘tied cottages’ – they were provided with the job – if you lost your job, you lost your home. Also understanding legal jargon found in historical documents, which may help us in family history researches. Old documents to decipher ? or questions ? – Bring them along. All welcome.
No charge – donations to Carbrooke Millenium Green/ Bar / Raffle.
